Have you ever felt nervous before a big meeting, interview or presentation? Well, I certainly do, even after years of experience.

In order to help give me an extra boost of confidence that I sometimes need, I wear my black high waisted work pants I bought from Sheike which I call the “Power Pants”.

Every time I come to work wearing them my close colleagues know I have something big on and will comment on them. I have even been known to do a ridiculous power pants dance, I strut up and down the work stalls and literally shake my hips chanting “power pants, power pants”, it looks as ridiculous as it sounds but for some reason the looming meeting or presentation becomes less daunting and as a bi-product I create on-going entertainment for many women in my team. The pants also make me look like a boss and so when I walk into a room... I feel like one.

Sometimes there are simple things you can wear or even do to help create confidence, or in my case also remind myself to not take myself too seriously.

There is a great Ted Talk by social psychologist Amy Cuddy where she argues that “power posing” - standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident, can boost feelings of confidence, and might have an impact on our chances for success.
