ARNA TALKS TO JANINA THOMPSON FROM MADE IT NUTRITION
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
What is something you've learned about yourself this year?
I have learnt that I can turn what I thought my weakness was, into my strength. I have dealt with a lot of pain and shame... I didn't believe in myself most my adult life and didn't like the attention when I did well. I learnt to accept my past and that helped me realise that I am worthy and can do anything. I have learnt to applaud myself and by sharing my story through my blog, I Am, able to shed a light on topics that some women need to see or even learn from.
What do you love about yourself?
I love that I constantly create things in my mind and make them happen.
When we do reach gender equality, what does this world look like to you?
A safer world where children will grow up without the idea of thinking they fit into certain boxes, and certain roles and girls knowing they are limitless. A world where we understand each others differences but have equal rights and opportunities. No dominance, no power over the other. The world in my eyes will rise. I think a prime example of creating equality is Jacinda Arden.
What do you believe are the behaviours that hold women back?
I'm going to speak personally. For me I like to be 'kind' and that is something that should be a strength but it became my weakness. Being kind doesn't mean you should be pushed around or miss out on opportunities. I think it's important to be able to know our boundaries and know that we do have our own choice and that's our right.
Another one is, saying sorry. It is similar to being kind. We often say sorry for too many things and it allows not only us but the people we say it to, think we are doing something wrong or un-deserving of something e.g. Sorry for taking too long, sorry for being too loud, sorry for winning. We can be constantly sorry for ourselves which can become our reality and hold us back.
Also, I think we can hold ourselves back from only knowing what we can see. What has already been done and not believing we can break tradition, that people telling you that you can't do it and what people have done in the past can't be undone.
What has been your boldest move to date?
We are constantly making bold moves. We believe in ourselves and in what we are doing so much that we are constantly investing in ourselves and our business. Everything we do is so over the top bold, lol.
What's your call to action for women?
Love yourself ladies. Get to know yourself, heal, do things that make your heart smile, invest in your wellbeing, stop saying sorry for who you are and Rock the World with your wonderful uniqueness!!
